Maggie Bob Shops: Mini Primark Haul

Yes I’ve been shopping! Little confession – this haul post should probably have gone up nearly a month ago when I actually bought this stuff, but I didn’t get around to it, and I’d lost my blogging mojo a bit if I’m honest. I’ve also been slightly preoccupied with something exciting that is happening next week and which I’m sure you’ll hear all about here very soon.

I’m calling this a mini-haul, not just because there’s only 4 things, but also they’re all wee – no clothing or larger pieces of homeware. Although last month (in different shopping trips) I did also buy from Primark the unicorn bedspread that everyone was talking about, a nice proper felt wool hat reduced to £1 and the Hogwarts bomber jacket I’ve been eyeing up since it came in and waiting for it to go on sale. I think that was £8 in the end.

Anyway, on the haul.

The unicorn trinket tray was £4. I take my rings off when I sleep so they get stored over the unicorn’s horn, obviously. And I’m trying to remember to keep my earrings on this tray too instead of haphazardly leaving them wherever I happen to be when I take them off (bad habit of mine!).

The rose gold earring set was, as you can see in the photo, only £2 for the three pairs of earrings. They had most initials still available when I went, so I had to nab a set of the ‘m’ ones of course. I’ve been wearing these quite a lot over the last month. Surprisingly I’ve found myself wearing the bigger circle ones more I just kind of like the way they look on I guess.

I’ve been wanting to try a deeper colour and this lip crayon was only £2 so perfect for experimenting. This is the Velvet Matte crayon in maroon and I must say the colour has had a lot of compliments. However this doesn’t have the staying power of my beloved MACs, so did need reapplying. Not bad for a day-to-day lipstick this time of year though.

Finally, I nabbed a hand cream because this manuka honey scent sounded delicious and again was only £1 for the tub. It can feel a wee bit sticky going on, but does (eventually) rub. It smells as good as I hoped it would too. I get through so much hand cream at work, constantly applying throughout the day as my hands feel so dry, so this will never go to waste.

So, have you bought anything nice recently? Do tell me in the comments below!

Maggie Bob Wants: Fresh Stationery for Summer

I would say there’s something about the sunshine that makes me want to refresh my stationery, but in all honesty, there’s something about any day ending in ‘y’ that compels me to stock up on notebooks and pens and post-its and highlighters and notecards and… okay, I’ll stop.

Here’s some stuff I’m lusting after that needs to get off of my screen and on to my desk.

Flamingo Pen | La La Land | £4 £3.20

Flamingos are everywhere right now and I’m not complaining!

Choo Choo Kitty Post-it Notes | Little Miss Delicious | £2.50

Cats + sticky notes = too cute for words.

Rotating Quote Stamp | Typo | £6

I particularly need the one that says “You’re weird, I like it”.

Open Me Tape | Marby & Elm | £6.95

For when you’re wrapping very impatient presents of course.

Smell No Evil A5 Notebook | Ohh Deer | £7.95

I would never open this notebook. It would sit on my desk closed just so I could chuckle at the cover.

Kate Spade What’s The Word Pencil Set | Liberty | £17.95

Who knew pencils could be so elegant?

Shark Attack Stapler | La La Land | £16 £12.80

Because who doesn’t love to pretend their stapler is chomping up their papers?

Let’s Squawk Notecards | Paperchase | £6

As if Let’s Squawk wasn’t enough of a pun, take a look at what’s hidden under the parrots’ wings…

Christina Lacroiz Multicolour Notebook | Liberty | £10.95

I’ve been rewatching Absolutely Fabulous lately and I feel I’m channelling Edina with this notebook.

Unicorn Bobble Head Pen | Typo | £6

I am powerless to resist a novelty pen, more so if it involves unicorns.

So – seen any good stationery lately?

Friday High Five #10

It’s 5pm on a Friday at the end of an unexpectedly sunny week here in Edinburgh. I’m dreaming of a hot fish supper, a cold beer, and these 5 lovelies to see me through to the weekend:

  • New shoes! I love Vans – find them very comfortable for walking about in, and I wanted a new pair for my upcoming holiday. With enough time to break them in of course. I saw these Digi Aloha Era ones and instantly went all heart-eye-emoji faced.

  • Planning! I watched a load of planning videos on YouTube during National Stationery Week and the inevitable happened. But I’m being sensible, for now. Rather than rush out and buy an expensive new planner only to never use it (not that any of us stationery addicts would do anything like that, right?), I’m dipping my toes in the water by converting one of my many (many, many, many) notebooks in to a weekly planner. And I already feel more on top of my life.

  • I’ve been hearing this song from Last Shadow Puppets a lot on BBC6 Music and now there’s a video I love it even more.

Happy weekend folks!

Maggie Bob Shops: Ikea Haul May 2016

If someone says “do you fancy a quick trip to Ikea?” the answer is always yes, right? Well this happened to me just recently, just after payday too, and so the inevitable happened! Admittedly I could have come out with 5 or 10 times as much as I did, so I think I did well exercising restraint like I did. All items and prices are from Ikea Edinburgh as at April 30th 2016.

I thought I would share with you what I bought this time. The only thing I got that is not included in the picture is sandwich bags. Ikea do brilliant ones of these, nice and strong, suitable for multiple reuses and in pretty colours too. But even I couldn’t make that an interesting subject in a photograph, so yeah, not included.

Sinnlig Candle | 85p each
The first word out of my brain when I hear Ikea is usually “candles!”. It doesn’t matter how many unused candles I have at home, I always want need more. I was all set to pick up some of the apple scented ones and then I spied these. I don’t know what the official scent is, but it made me think of clean towels straight away. Judging by the picture, it’s supposed to be a ‘spa’ scent, so that makes sense. I’m thinking I could use these to really set the mood for a home spa day?

Smycka Artifical Flower | £1.75
Ensidig Vase | £1
When a kind and amazing friend brought us some flowers earlier this year, I realised we don’t actually own a vase, and we ended up putting them in a Hard Rock Cafe Hurricane cocktail glass. So I zoned right in on the vase section in the Ikea market place and settled on this cute wee milk bottle shaped one. Of course, I can’t have the vase sitting around empty most of the year, waiting for someone to buy me a flower, so I got a pretty artificial tulip (because Amsterdam) as a placeholder.

Ikea Chicken Meatballs | £4.35
It’s physically impossible for me not to buy a bag of meatballs while at Ikea. We’ve used up the last bag from our freezer, so this was quite timeous anyway.

Valbekant Paper Clips | £1.50
For literally 10p a tub in the sale section, I wasn’t going to leave without these cute speech bubble shaped paperclips. I’ve been watching a lot of journalling videos on YouTube lately, and shaped paperclips feature hugely, so I’m sure I’ll find a use for these when I get around to setting up my journalling system. The ones I’ve linked to above are the coloured version (plus other shapes) which are still available, albeit at the full price.

Onskedrom Tray | £5
Saving the best for last, how adorable is this tray? My first thought seeing those two birds was that they looked a little like the husband and me (I’m the one on the right!). I’m thinking we’ll use this for pizza night or just so I don’t spill when trying to carry more than one thing at a time.

So what do you guys think? Have you bought anything nice from Ikea recently, or are you coveting anything from there?
