Friday High Five #13

This is at least the third time this week I’ve been certain it is Friday, but only the first time I’ve been right. It’s obviously been a long week – I don’t know if all of you have felt the same? So here are five things just to round out the week and see us in to the weekend together. Grab a G&T and let’s show this week who is boss!

maggiebob-asos-yellow-hat

  • I have a lot of hats, but none of them are yellow. Well this one from ASOS is only £18 and will fill the colourful gap in my headwear wardrobe just nicely, thank you

maggiebob-auld-hoose-nachos

  • My review of The Auld Hoose in Edinburgh was highlighted as Review of The Day on Yelp today and it’s made me hungry for a giant plate of nachos again. I know I’ll never be able to finish them, and then will come the regret, but still… nachos.

  • Lin-Manuel’s last Ham4Ham (4 now) – the end of an era, but what a sweet send off. And yes – my Hamilton obsession is not abating. Not even slightly.

maggiebob-louche-duchess-bauhaus

  • Louche dresses always make me feel great. The cut of this Duchess dress, and that geometric Bauhaus pattern just make my heart sing, and the reduction to £41 doesn’t dampen my tune.

maggiebob-iced-tea-2

  • Homemade iced tea – I still can’t get enough of our refreshing homemade iced tea. Tempted to try it with other fruit flavours now, though the peach is such a classic. Don’t forget to check out my recipe.

Maggie Bob Wears: Damson Kitten Blouse Three Ways

Last week, Lindybop tweeted a link to one of their new products, and I just knew immediately that I had to give it the 3-ways treatment. I love that feeling where just one item of clothing gives me lots of outfit ideas. And of course, any excuse to go shopping – virtually or otherwise. The product was this kitten print blouse:

damson-kitten-blouse

Damson Kitten Print Shirt | Lindybop | £20
Well I think it’s “oh my gosh” cute, and I hope you do too. My head was instantly running with ideas of how to wear this. I’m told summer is nearly here (who can tell with sunshine, rainbows and hailstones all in the one day), and I think this blouse is perfectly suited to some summer looks…

Look 1: Playsuit Playfulness

damson-blouse-look-1

Black Pinafore Playsuit | New Look | £14.99
Andy Warhol Floral Chucks | Converse | £50
Polka Dot Lacy Frilly Socks | Accessorize | £3.50£1.75
Black Baker Boy Hat | New Look | £9.99
Alice In Wonderland Bag | Primark | £9
Obviously the blouse is begging to be worn under a pinafore of some description, and I think this playsuit adds just the right element of fun. Some light-hearted accessories, and a great hat and you’re ready for some summer playfulness. See that Alice in Wonderland bag? I’ve already bought the backpack version and this smaller one goes perfectly with this look.

Look 2: Red-y For Summer

damson-blouse-look-2
Cropped Jersey Trousers | Bon Prix | £14.99
Lola Ramona Shoes | Office | £110£60
Hobbs Katie Belt | House of Fraser | £29
Jeepers Peepers Cat Eye Sunglasses | ASOS | £18
Strong Lipstick | Lush | £14.50
Star & Paisley Bandana | ASOS | £5

I’ve got a habit of picking up a tiny detail and really playing it up. So, when I spotted that the kittens on the blouse are wearing wee red bows, I took that colour and ran with it for this look. Again, with one eye to the coming summer and just a smidge of good lipstick we’re ready to go with this one.

Look 3: Kitten That Got The Cream

damson-blouse-look-3

Rare London Cream Spot Skirt | Zalando | £45
Strappy Metalic Sandals | Forever 21 | £20
Pearl Acrylic Laser Cut Cat Brooch | ShopMissElla via Etsy | £7.78
Cut Out Clutch | Little Mistress | £25
Cat Watch | Junk Jewels va notonthehighstreet | £18

You may not believe me, but I didn’t go for this colour just to get away with that pun-y awful title. This floaty cream skirt was just crying out to be paired up with the Lindybop blouse, and I couldn’t resist throwing in a couple of cat-themed accessories (I have form when it comes to animal themed outfits). Despite this, I still think this is quite understated and a cute/dreamy look for this summer.

So there you have it. I’m still trying to decide which of the three looks I like best, so please tell me your fave in the comments below!

Maggie Bob Wants: Jumpers for Autumn 2015

Yes! It is officially autumn – my favourite season. A good excuse for mug of something warming (hot chocolate? tea? pumpkin spice latte?) while snuggled under a sofa blanket, watching all the good telly that suddenly makes an appearance. Or how about walks in the crisp, fresh (and hopefully not too soggy) air – yes please!

And my favourite thing is my autumn wardrobe. My standard ‘uniform’ becomes a dress, thick (and usually colourful) tights and a cosy jumper. If you looked in my wardrobe right now I’m sure you’d reach the conclusion that I have enough jumpers to get me through to Christmas, but that doesn’t stop me wanting this lot:

Animal Cute

AnimalJumpers

Louche Bluebird Jumper | Joy | £45
Polar Bear Sweater | Next | £28
Embroidered Penguin Jumper | Primark | £14
Marsha Intarsia Sausagedog Jumper | Joules | £69.95

Spots & Stripes

JumpersSpotStripe

Shimmery Polka Dot Sweater | La Redoute | £19
Black Stripe Slub Jumper | New Look | £22.99
Double Stripe Jumper | Oasis | £35
Wilderness Spot Jumper | White Stuff | £59.95

Weird & Wonderful

WeirdJumpers

Awesome Leopard Print Sweater | everything5pounds | £5
Pink Eyelash Knit Jumper | F&F at Tesco | £14
Noline Shadow Floral Jumper | Ted Baker (via John Lewis) | £99
Jumper With High Neck In Geo Pattern | ASOS | £35

What jumper are you going to be snuggling down in this autumn?

Maggie Bob Wears: One Jacket Three Ways

This might be my last ‘three ways’ post for a little while – my sprained foot is finally useable (albeit with crutches) so I’m going to be easing back in to the real world over the next couple of weeks. Saying that, I’ve enjoyed doing these so much that I will definitely do more of them in the future.

Baroque-Jacket-by-Joe-Browns~98G783FRSP

Baroque Jacket | Joe Browns | £79.95

This jacket was sent to me by Cate to style up three ways for her. Hopefully these provide some inspiration!

Look 1: Berry chic

grey skirt

Wool skirt | M&S | £49.50
Knot front tee | Topshop | £16
Tan ankle boots | £47.50
Stripe jacquard scarf | Phase 8 | £35
Salon Pro nail varnish ‘Celebrity Bash’ | Rimmel via Superdrug | £4.49

A nice outfit for the office this – and all of those lovely berry shades will pop nicely against the grey of the jacket and skirt. That knot front tee nicely straddles the line between comfortable and smart too, I think.

Look 2:  Paint the town cream

Navy and cream

AX Paris lace waist skater dress | New Look | £30
Leather Chelsea ankle boots | ASOS | £55
Turnlock pocket bag | Laura Ashley | £21
Waffle textured tights | Topshop | £8.50
Mable cable headband | Joules | £14.95

A nice soft and feminine look, while still being able to hold up to the harsher weather for a night out. I liked the idea of the navy to pick out the blue feature button on the jacket, and where there is navy cream will follow!

Look 3: OK Coral

Coral flashes

Pinstripe trousers | H&M | £24.99
Molly herringbone twill shirt | Monsoon | £29
Izzy brogue | Kate Kanzier | £25
Nicandra clutch bag | Kate Kanzier | £25
C oral statement necklace | Coast | £40

Just because you want a nice relaxed outfit for the weekend, doesn’t mean you have to cast off all colour, right? The pops of coral might be a bit unseasonal right now but who cares. For a more casual looks the trousers could be swapped for skinny fit jeans.

The comments are below if you want to tell me which look you like best, or how you’d still out that gorgeous jacket.

Maggie Bob Wears: Bunny Jumper Three Ways

After my call out for ‘three way’ challenges, my friend Danielle threw this jumper at me:

Topshop Bunny Jumper

Knitted Bunny Motif Jumper | Topshop | £45

Mega cute right? But dressing a bunny jumper up three different ways – what a challenge. It took a bit of browsing around and online window shopping (oh, woe is me!) but I think I’ve nailed it!

Look 1: Sunshine preppy

Yellow preppy

Louche Addy Blouse | Joy | £30 £15
Leather-look skater skirt | New Look | £10
Black lace-up pumps | AX Paris | £12
Yellow cotton socks | Sock Shop | £4.25
Triangle Collar Necklace | Accessorize | £10

This blouse popped up in my email as it’s currently half price (seriously, grab it before I buy them all) and I just knew it had to be paired with a leather skirt. The bunny jumper over this lot, with just the peek of a yellow blouse and socks puts a splash of colour in to this preppy look.

Look 2: Navy and check

navy and check

Cooperative Trousers in Red Check Print | Urban Outfitters | £48
Navy cami top | River Island | £10
Satin slingback peep-toe sandals | Barratts | £20
Navy mini satchel bag | Yumi | £25
Navy Barry M Nail Polish | Nail Varnish Direct | £2.95

My short legs just don’t go with trousers, but I really need these check print ones. And I love the idea of the muted navy pallet against the check and bunny jumper. Plus, it stops the trousers from looking too Rupert The Bear/Rod Stewart.

Look 3: Bunny Up

All bunnies

Peter Jensen Rabbit dress | People Tree | £68
Bannyla ballet flats | Le Bunny Bleu | £27.45
Johnny Loves Rosie bunny ears headband | ASOS | £12
Rabbit bowler bag | Next | £34
Alice in Wonderland Book Page brooch | House of Ismay via NOTHS | £10

It had to be done – I could not resist the lure of searching for all the bunny themed clothing. The dress, shoes and jumper would work together without drawing too many funny looks, but by the time you add the ears and bag people may start to spot the theme (although the ears are surprisingly quite subtle). And that brooch – made out of a page from Alice in Wonderland is just the icing on this (bunny shaped) cake.

Please use the comments below to tell me which look or piece you like best. How would you still out that jumper?

Maggie Bob Wears: Purple Hat Three Ways

As I had so much fun doing my boots three ways looks, I asked twitter to suggest items for me to base outfits around next and my friend Katie (of The Neverending Tea Party) came up with this hat:

purple_hat

 Plum Wool Hat | H&M | £12.99

The best thing about this challenge is I already have a hat a bit like this that my husband bought me on our first holiday together, which of course I never wear because I can never think of ways to wear it. Well – I have three outfit inspirations now!

Look 1: Plum monochrome

Plum_monochrome

 Belted Prom Dress | M&S | £49.50
Therapy Triple Compartment Bag | House of Fraser | £39.20
Lennox Ballet Flats | ASOS | £25
Gipsy Purple Tights | New Look | £6.49
‘Quite The Thing’ Sheen Supreme Lipstick | MAC | £15.50

I do like a muted palette with splashes of one colour. Okay, between the hat, bag, tights and lipstick it’s quite a few splashes – but tell me you don’t love this! And seeing as Katie is the inspiration behind this post, the MAC lipstick is a tribute to her. Seriously, she’s even convinced me to wear make-up on a semi-regular basis.

Look 2: Casual colourful

Casual_colours

Hampton Boyfriend Jean | Jigsaw | £75
Spot Shirt Layer Sweater | Next | £35
Converse All Star Low Red | Office | £44.99
Patterned Scarf | Uni Qlo | £9.90
Cute Cheeseburger Necklace | Little Miss Delicious | £25

I didn’t know where this one was going when I started it, but I really like it. I’m picturing the scarf tied around the hat to bring all of the bits together. This is definitely something I would wear for mooching around town in.

Look 3: Teal and Plum

Teal_Purple

White Stuff Glass Dress | House of Fraser | £55
Aimee Cropped Sleeve Blazer | BooHoo | £25
Black Cashmere Scarf | H&M | £34.99
Rhinestone Wedges | Everything5Pounds | £5
Beaded Tassel Drop Earrings | Topshop | £25

I want to call this look boho, but I think it only loosely fits in to this. However, I just love the teal against the purple so this had to be done. I’m a big fan of blazers – they can really jazz up a dress. And the shoes? Well the shoes are just too fun to say no to, right?

As always – do leave a comment to tell me which look you like most.

Maggie Bob Wears: Boots Three Ways

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been stuck at home for the past couple of weeks now – ever since I took a tumble on the dancefloor and badly sprained my foot. While I’m getting the hang of crutches, I’m also having to come to terms with the fact that it’ll be quite a while before I can wear heels again, so I’ve started to research some flat and supportive boots to help get me on my feet while I fully heal.

tan_boots

Tan Chunky Buckle High Leg Boots | New Look | £39.99

Knowing that New Look always have comfortable shoes that make my feet happy, these boots should do the trick and see me through autumn (my favourite season, ever!) and right in to winter. And seeing how I’m stuck at home right now resting my foot, I decided to do a bit of online fantasy shopping and design three outfits that I would definitely absolutely wear to go with these boots.

Look 1: 90’s grunge

grunge_look

I know the 90’s is a bit too ‘now’ for me, but I need this tartan skirt in my life and wardrobe anyway. The Lulu Guinness bag folds away in to the lips (of course it does!), and Debbie Harry is essential in any circumstances. This outfit just felt like it needed those big hoopy earrings to finish it off too.

Tartan Skit | Topshop | £32
Debbie Harry T | George at ASDA | £10
Lulu Guinness Tote | Selfridges | £35
Oversized Hoop Earrings | Claires | £5.50

Look 2: Autumnal

Autumnal_look

This is my most expensive outfit, but it’s got a whole picturesque scene to go with it. Can’t you just see me wearing this while running walking carefully through Alexandra Palace, kicking up piles of autumn leaves? And then stopping somewhere for a hot chocolate to warm my hands on. You can’t see it in this picture, but the parka has leopard ears on the hood, which makes it just cutesy enough to go with a dress.

Ghoul Lace Dress | Topshop | £65
A Wear Leopard Ear Parka | ASOS | £80
Fallen Leaves Necklace | Tatty Devine | £30

Look 3: Snuggly Wooly

Wooly_look

It wouldn’t be autumn without some oversized knitwear. I’m not sure if I can pull off the skinny-jeans-tucked-in-to-boots looks, but I want to try. And I’ll tell you a secret – Primark jeans are a damned good fit for me and my *ahem* generous rear spoiler.

Soft Skinny Jeans | Primark (online via ASOS) | £11
Cream & Pink Hearts Jumper | New Look | £29.99
Cobweb Beanie Hat | Topshop | £12
Cobweb Snood | Topshop | £16

Do let me know which outfit you like best, or what you’d wear with the boots.
